Disclaimer: The HITS score was derived and initially validated by Gillespie et al. (2020) in a mild-TBI referral cohort (GCS 13–15). They reported sensitivity ≈99% and specificity ≈52% for surgically significant TBI (AUC 0.79; 95% CI 0.76–0.82). See Br J Neurosurg 2020. Further validation and development work conducted by Taweel et al. demonstrated sensitivity 91% and specificity 41% (AUC 0.71; 95% CI 0.68-0.74) on a large sample n=2453 (unpublished data). A sub-group analysis of those with HITS Score of 1, GCS 15, and not on antithrombotic agents revealed [INSERT]. This tool reproduces the structured reporting logic for clinical documentation and supporting local risk stratification.
